STEMcon 2021: The City of Tomorrow

Do you have what it takes to run Edmonton? As the next generation of thinkers and problem solvers, what steps can you take to make our city more sustainable while enhancing the lives of fellow Edmonton residents? With your small team, brainstorm clever ideas to tackle environmental problems and win awesome prizes at our annual STEMcon event!

Millennium STEM Alberta is proud to bring back STEMcon for 2021 as a case competition! Our theme: The City of Tomorrow. Do you have what it takes to develop a sustainable city? What types of changes/new things you would add to make Edmonton sustainable? In groups of 3-4 you will devise a team plan that will help bring our city towards an eco-friendly future based on the prompt that we will provide on the day of the event! All future mayors, come forth and win awesome prizes for your plans!

Important Dates

  • Registration is open from now until February 12, 2022 11:59 PM MST.

  • STEMcon will run for two days, each a week apart: February 19, 2022 and February 26, 2022 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM MST. It is MANDATORY to attend BOTH days.

Event Logistics

  • Each group will have 3-4 individuals.

  • High-school and university undergraduate students will be judged on separate criteria and separate prizes available.

  • The event will run on virtually. More details on event links will be sent our after registration.

  • On February 19, 2022, the competition prompt and adjudicating details will be released.

  • Groups will have one week to come with a presentation and proposal document based on the prompt.

  • On February 26, 2022, groups will present, be judged and award ceremonies will follow.

Registration Instructions

  • IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A TEAM: Please submit the registration form for you, and ask your group members to fill out their own applications. Every member must submit their OWN application.

  • IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A TEAM: Please fill out the registration form and skip section 2. Please note this is a team-based event and we will assign you your group members and notify you when we do so.
